Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern recognised an exceptional group of care-experienced young people this morning, as part of the annual Prime Minister’s Oranga Tamariki Awards.
The Prime Minister’s Oranga Tamariki Awards recognise the achievements and potential of young people in care, providing scholarships valued from $3000.
The scholarships are supported by generous sponsors who are committed to helping young people in care achieve their goals for the future, whether that be for study, sport, following a passion, or developing leadership skills.
This year, 34 young people received awards from regions such as Northland, Auckland, Taranaki, Manawatū, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Canterbury.
Oranga Tamariki plays a kaitiaki role by hosting the PMOT Awards, and nominations are received from all parts of the sector and community.
Being nominated for a PMOT Award can be a life-changing experience for a young person, and they contribute to our vision of ensuring all children are safe, loved, nurtured and supported by thriving communities.
